12 hidden IOS 18 Features
With iOS 18, Apple has brought a lot of new features to your iPhone. Many elements, such as the redesigned Control Centre, are easy to overlook, but there are also a few little but significant adjustments that you might not have seen.
12 hidden IOS 18 Features
Change App Icons to Widgets
You can now turn an app icon into a widget with iOS 18. With the use of this function, you can show more details about the app than just its name. One of your memories will appear in place of the default Photos app icon, for example, if you turn the Photos app into a widget.
You may choose from three different widget styles in the menu that appears when you long-press the app icon to make it a widget. There may only be two widget designs available for specific apps, though.
Long-press the widget and choose the “Windows” icon (it appears as four squares) to return it to the app icon. As an alternative, you can long-press the widget and choose “Remove Widget” if you wish to take it off your home screen.
Ask to Share the Screen
You may come across a scenario when a distant person requires assistance with their iPhone. To help you advise them in these situations, you can ask them to share their iPhone screen by using the new “Ask to Share Screen” function.
To initiate a screen sharing request, launch the Messages application, navigate to the recipient’s chat window, tap the recorder icon located in the upper-right corner, and choose “Ask to Share Screen.”
An audio FaceTime call will be placed to the other person. To let you see their screen once they accept the call, they must press the “Share” option. Their iPhone screen will then show up on your smartphone. To highlight or illustrate something, you can tap on the shared screen and then use your fingers to draw on it.
You can also ask to access their iPhone remotely. When you tap the bottom-right remote access symbol, the other person will see an invitation to tap “Allow” to give you access. The remote control session can be terminated by the other party at any moment by touching the “Stop” button located in the bottom-right corner.
hare Wi-Fi Passwords Via QR Code
With iOS 18, you can now use the Wi-Fi password sharing feature that has long been available on Android handsets on your iPhone. To accomplish this, launch the Passwords app, pick “Wi-Fi,” navigate to the network you wish to share, and then click “Show Network QR Code.”
On your screen, a QR code with the Wi-Fi password will appear. With the camera app on their smartphone, your pals may quickly connect to Wi-Fi by scanning this QR code.
Multilingual Keyboard
Multilingual keyboards are now supported by iOS 18, which is particularly helpful when interacting with non-native speakers. If you’re conversing with someone from the Netherlands who speaks Dutch, for instance, and your default keyboard is set to English, you can add Dutch as an extra keyboard language.
As a result, the keyboard can recommend words in the chosen language without flagging them as erroneous. Choose the language you wish to add to your keyboard by going to Settings > General > Keyboard > Keyboards > Add New Keyboard.
Verify the settings on your keyboard now, then click “Done” in the upper-right corner.
Copy and Paste Photo Edits
You can quickly apply the same adjustments from one shot to another using iOS 18. Click the three dots in the upper-right corner of an image after editing it, then choose “Copy Edits.” Select the precise adjustments you need to duplicate, then select “Copy.”
Then, select “Paste Edits” by tapping the three dots in the upper-right corner of the image after opening it and making the desired modifications.
Edit Photos and Videos in Your Preferred Theme
When you opened an image in the Photos app to edit, you could choose between light and dark mode manually by tapping the edit icon in the bottom bar, tapping the three dots in the top-right corner, selecting “Appearance,” and selecting your favourite theme. Previously, the editing window in the Photos app followed your iPhone’s overall theme. If your phone was set to a light theme, the editing interface was also light.
Looped Video Playback
The new looped video playback function in iOS 18 is, in my opinion, one of the most minor yet appreciated changes. Your iPhone will automatically resume a video from the beginning after it has finished playing.
Until you manually select a different video, terminate the Photos application, or pause the film, this loop will keep going. Unfortunately, Apple doesn’t currently have a way to deactivate this looping feature, which is something I think they should add—especially for those who don’t like the automatic replay.
5-Second Timer in the Camera App
There were previously only two timer options available in the iPhone Camera app: 3 seconds and 10 seconds. But Apple has added a new 5-second option with iOS 18. This can be quite helpful because 3 seconds might sometimes feel like too little time for users to set up for a picture, and 10 seconds might seem like too much time to maintain a pose.
Audio Playback While Recording Video
Apple now gives you the option to choose manually if you want to continue listening to music while shooting pictures or videos. I tested this feature and discovered that it can have an adverse effect on video recording. The music playing on the iPhone and the background noise are both captured in the recorded video, which could contaminate it.
If this type of recording is acceptable to you, you can activate the capability by opening the Settings app, clicking on the “Camera” menu, selecting “Record Sound,” and turning on the “Allow Audio Playback” toggle.
Slow Charge Indicator
The majority of approved chargers can charge your iPhone, however some are slower than others. A “Slow Charger” indicator has been added to iOS 18 and will show up when you’re using a slower charger.
By using the Settings app on your iPhone and choosing the “Battery” option, you can see this indicator. Orange indicates that the Slow Charger is engaged in the Battery Level graph.
Shut Down Your iPhone via the Control Center
iOS 18 provides a faster way to shut down your iPhone. You simply need to open the Control Center and press and hold the power icon in the top-right corner. Then, move the slider to the right to shut down your device.
Math Notes
A new “Math Notes” feature in the Calculator app helps with a variety of mathematical tasks. Solving problems using variables is one of Math Notes’ main functions.
To utilise it, launch the Calculator app, hit the bottom-left calculator button, and choose “Math Notes.” A variable can have a value assigned to it and be used to carry out activities. For instance, Math Notes will automatically display the result if you enter “X + 10” and assign the variable “X” the value of 10.
Even better, a slider allows you to alter the values, and the outcome will update automatically. For instance, you can tap one of the numbers to bring up a slider if you’ve scrawled an equation like “5 + 2 = 7”. The slider will then automatically update in real-time as you make adjustments.
You can also obtain a graphical representation of an equation with Math Notes. All you have to do is type in a variable equation and select “Insert Graph”. Your equation will be represented by a graph that appears.
These are a few little-known but really useful secret iOS features that you should certainly check out. It’s crucial to remember that these aren’t the “only” hidden features. This implies that a great deal of other features might be concealed and eventually come to light.
